Director of Instrumental Music to Retire
Recognition planned for Church Music Sunday
After more than 33 years at Holy Trinity, Jo Carol Thomason is announcing her retirement. She will continue to serve as Director of Instrumental Music through June 30. “This has been a difficult decision,” said Jo Carol. “I could not have asked for a more rewarding experience than the one I have had serving at Holy Trinity and, for that, I am grateful.”
In 1990, Jo Carol began directing one youth handbell choir as a volunteer. She then joined the church staff in 1997 as director of all handbell choirs. She has shared her musical gifts with members of all ages, introducing them to handbells while enhancing our worship services. “I have had the privilege to instruct members and non-members from ages 8 to 70+ through five handbell choirs,” said Jo Carol. “It has been rewarding to watch so many of them grow and develop a talent and passion for music, and it means a great deal to me to have been a part of that.” Jo Carol added that she will be maintaining her role with Chapel Ringers, a small ensemble focused on community outreach and bringing music to local organizations like Carolina Caring.
In addition to handbells, Jo Carol’s role at Holy Trinity has included overseeing the music ministry, actively participating in worship planning, as well as coordinating the Faith Formation Lift High the Cross program. She has shared her experience with enthusiasm and dedication, and has been a true asset to the Holy Trinity family.
“Though it has been an emotional time, I am looking forward to welcoming new leaders with new ideas for the next chapter at Holy Trinity,” said Jo Carol. “This church will always be home for Scott and me, and we are excited to find new ways to serve.” Scott has worked hand-in-hand with Jo Carol over the years, helping with the physical challenges of setting up and taking down each time a handbell group plays in worship.
Jo Carol will be formally recognized for her years of service as part of Church Music Sunday on April 30.
